My good friend Martha contacted me in the fall with an idea for her husband’s surprise Christmas gift of a painting depicting the area where he invited her to marry him many years ago. I absolutely love this romantic commission! The challenge was to not just design the perfect concept , but also have it fit into a specified area above their mantel in their living room. Martha and I met numerous times to review various concept studies and this is the one she selected as the subject for the painting – depicting Maine’s colorful rocky coast. Her husband was thrilled with the painting and in fact he sent me a picture on Christmas day with it aptly hanging in place above the cozy fireplace.
